Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences 2024

A massive congratulations to Professor Daron Acemoğlu and his fellow economists Simon Johnson and James A. Robinson on being awarded the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel!

The pioneering research of these three economists on institutions, development, and political economy has reshaped the way we think about the forces that drive economic progress and inequality. Their work continues to inspire new generations of economists and policymakers alike.

David Hemous, the UBS Foundation Associate Professor of Economics of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, has a deep and long-standing collaboration with Daron Acemoğlu. Together, they have co-authored several influential papers, with their most recent work being “Climate Change, Directed Innovation, and Energy Transition: The Long-run Consequences of the Shale Gas Revolution” (also joint with Philippe Aghion and Lint Barrage).

This well-deserved recognition is a testament to his profound impact on our discipline and the world at large. We look forward to seeing how his brilliant insights will continue to push the boundaries of economics.
