Florian Bissig has studied philosophy and English literature and linguistics in Zurich and Berlin, receiving his Lizenziat from the University of Zurich in 2008. After a 15-month stint as newspaper journalist and editor he is currently writing his doctoral thesis on the poet, philosopher and journalist S.T. Coleridge with the support of a research fellowship awarded from the University of Zurich (Forschungskredit) and with a grant awarded from the Swiss National Research Foundation (SNF). Florian is initiator and co-leader of the Peer Mentoring Group “Genius for Hire” and he is a member of “The Friends of Coleridge”, the “British Association for Romantic Studies”, the "North American Society for the Study of Romanticism", and the "Swiss Association of University Teachers of English". At the English Department of the University of Zurich he has served as a course instructor and as coordinator of the Doctoral Program in English and American Literary Studies.

Florian’s dissertation project, which is entitled “Coleridge’s Communicative Modes: Poetry, Journalism, Conversation”, aims at a comprehensive survey of Coleridge as poet, talker, journalist and prose writer with regard to notions and theories relating to authorship, readership, communication and media. His further fields of interest include the history of philosophical thought and questions of aesthetics and hermeneutics.
