Happy Birthday Ernst Fehr
In honor of his 70th birthday, the Department of Economics and the University of Zurich are organizing a series of events to celebrate Ernst Fehr's contributions to science and academic life.
The Department of Economics at the University of Zurich, in its current form and standing, would not be what it is today without the visionary spirit of Ernst Fehr. He has shaped the department for more than three decades – as a pioneering researcher, dedicated teacher, former Director of the department. What he has achieved remains unprecedented.
Fehr is a Professor of Economics whose pioneering work has shaped modern behavioral economics and neuroeconomics. His research has transformed our understanding of how social motives, fairness, and norms influence cooperation, markets, and organizational behavior. His research has earned widespread recognition, both in academia and in the public sphere.
Fehr also understood early on how partnerships are essential in achieving excellence, and acted as the driving force behind the creation of both the Excellence Foundation Zurich and the UBS Center for Economics in Society.
To mark his jubilee, we have organized a scientific conference to celebrate his contributions to science and academic life. Five Nobel laureates, Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo, Joel Mokyr, Oliver Hart, Jean Tirole, and many other brilliant researchers gathered on this occasion at the University of Zurich.
We will soon report on this, stay tuned.
