The group of Josef Zweimüller at the University of Zurich analyzes interactions between inequality, innovation and technology diffusion in the global economy, the effects of intellectual property protection, and interactions between inequality and the environment and inequality and conspicuous consumption. Another focus lies on the empirical analysis of local and international price setting.

This is done exploiting variation in the exposure of local U.S labor markets to trade competition from China.

The group of Peter Egger at ETH Zurich explores quantitative effects of tax and investment policies and studies the determinants of bilateral migration and bilateral trade. The focus lies on structural estimation and calibration of multi-country general equilibrium models of trade and factor mobility with heterogenous firms and households.

The group of Reto Föllmi at the University of St. Gallen studies the effects of tax competition in Switzerland and the consequences of direct democratic institutions on aggregate preferences for trade liberalization. Further research focuses on international arbitrage and on the effects of trade liberalization on the reallocation of production factors.
