Pre-Doc Program

Welcome to the predoctoral program at the Department of Economics at the University of Zurich.
 
Launched in 2021, the Econ Predoc Program offers an excellent opportunity for talented students to explore whether a career in academic economics and research aligns with their interests. The program is designed to prepare participants for PhD studies in economics. By working closely with faculty members on active research projects, pre-docs gain first-hand experience of academic research and the daily work of an economist.

There are two non-mutually exclusive application paths. Eligible applicants are encouraged to pursue both.
 
1. Individual Postings
Many professors independently advertise pre-doctoral research positions for their own projects. These positions are open to all applicants, regardless of nationality or background. Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to apply directly through these individual postings.
 
2. Global Talent Common Application
The Department of Economics also invites applications from qualified applicants from low- and middle-income countries and/or with a refugee background. Eligible candidates may apply through a centralized common application process, which creates a pool of shortlisted applicants from which faculty members may recruit pre-docs.
